Welcome to New Oxford Middle School and to the new school year! It is my hope that each of you had a safe and relaxing summer and are eager to get started in August. We are really excited for what this year has in store for us. The middle school setting allows for students to develop academically, physically, and socially. Our professional and caring staff is among the finest in the state, and they enter each day seeking ways to help our children grow as young adults.
The middle school provides many opportunities for our students to become involved. I encourage your children to consider being involved in band or chorus, attend fun nights, or after school programs, or to join one of our many athletic programs. Studies have consistently shown that students who are involved with their schools beyond the school day have a higher self-esteem and sense of belonging. In addition, they tend to experience a more positive development academically and socially. Therefore, I would strongly encourage you to belong to one of the many extra-curricular activities we offer our students.
In 2021-2022, NOMS will continue our 1:1 initiative with every student receiving a 7th generation iPad. Technology will be used as a supplement to our curriculum, we will not lean on it exclusively. With a new chapter upon us, in what is hopefully a more post-covid environment, we hope to seek a more balanced approach. I think you will find a rigorous learning opportunity for your child; one in which they are challenged every day.
Finally, we are ready and excited for this new chapter. Every educational sector has been stretched and challenged in every way over the course of the past two years. We will be stronger for having endured it and are eager to return and build on the successes, so we can grow as a school. NOMS is a better place with everyone in it all working together to grow as people.
I hope your children have a great year and encourage them to come and see me if they have a question or concern.
